We tried to take out the marijuana tubing to clean up Monkey Face. We were concerned about puncturing the dry bags. We transferred all the gear including the headlamps into Bill’s backpack. We stuffed my backpack with all the marijuana tubing to help clean the canyon up. Bill was LMAR and left his backpack up at the anchor station. The rope was pulled and the canyon turned into a nightmare. We had to descend in the dark without headlamps. We could not see our devices in front of us. We had to rig, manage anchors, and descend the canyon totally blind. It turned a straight forward canyon into one of the most intense descents that I have ever done. We both maintained our composure and focused on the task at hand. This alone saved us. It will be an experience that I will never forget.
