The debate over legalizing marijuana continues to be a contentious issue in this country. Voters in Colorado and Washington chose to legalize the drug this past election cycle, placing them in conflict with federal law that still considers the drug illegal. We spoke with Texas Democratic Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa and Drug Policy Alliance’s Jasmine Tyler, who are both working to reform marijuana laws. They said that the way marijuana is handled in this country does more harm than good, while Jerry Peters of the North Denver Drug Task Force fears that lax marijuana laws lead to increased crime and risk.
