Occupy Santa Rosa announced plans late this week to boost their presence at City Hall with tents and a larger encampment. The expansion, set for Saturday night, is banned by city ordinances, and appears to be a response to the police crackdown Wednesday at Occupy Oakland. Santa Rosa officials have confirmed that the Police Department intends to enforce the camping ban.
In Marin news, Katie Rice, an administrative aide to former Marin County Supervisor Hal Brown, has been appointed to fill his seat (!) Rice will be sworn in on Tuesday morning.
Brown recently announced his resignation in order to focus on his 10-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Sonoma County Supervisors revisited their rules for medical cannabis clubs, this week. Among the tentative changes is a tighter limit on the number of dispensaries that will be permitted. Eleven pot shops were proposed, and nine were approved by the Board.
SMART and the group seeking to repeal its funding continued their procedural kerfuffle this week. The most recent issues concern ballot language as well as the number of signatures needed to qualify the repeal.
City leaders in American Canyon, which is nestled between Napa and Vallejo, were hoping to earn some needed funds by staging concerts at their High School’s new and well-equipped theater. But, with only 450 seats, they were told that the idea was risky and not likely to earn big bucks. More on American Canyon’s Show-A-Palooza aspirations at the NapaValleyRegister.com
