On December 10, 2013, the Senate of Uruguay approved Law 19172, which regulates the cannabis market in the South American country. The state measure also regulates the production, marketing, possession, and recreational and medicinal use of this plant, as well as its use for industrial purposes. With this law, Uruguay became the first country in the world to regulate the sale, consumption and cultivation of marijuana.
