Board certified psychiatrist Dr. Lisa Walker speaks about how medical cannabis helps people who suffer from post-traumatic stress. “One of the main functions of [the endocannabinoid] system is to help us recover from stress….Eat, sleep, relax, forget and protect are some of the main messages that the endocannabinoids send to our body. It’s not surprising that folks using medical cannabis to treat their PTSD symptoms will report that they are able to sleep, their nightmares are diminished, they feel less anxious, they’re more relaxed, they feel less irritable, they have less aggressive behavior. In many cases alcohol consumption and need for narcotic pain medication are decreased as well.”
