Last year there were 23,000 homicides in Mexico, a level surpassed only by Syria. The record breaking homicide rate in Mexico is directly linked to large international banks. The illegal trade in heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana wouldn’t be possible without the money laundering services of large banks. Every major bank in the US has served as an active financial partner with drug cartels. The banks include HSBC, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Western Union, Citibank, and JP Morgan, in addition to overseas banks operating out of New York, Miami, Los Angeles, and London. Mexico’s Sinaloa drug cartel and Colombia’s Norte del Valle cartel laundered nearly 900 million through HSBC. The bank was slapped on the wrist and told to pay a $1.9 billion fine. Nobody went to prison.
